Yesterday I went to see the new offices with my boss. Today I explored the area around where the offices are currently based, which took about 15 minutes in total.
Blackheath is “full of delis, coffee shops and hairdressers” according to one of my new colleagues. TBH, she’s not wrong from what I’ve seen today. However, it has a lovely village feel and the heath is beautiful. I love that about London, how you suddenly come across massive green areas in the midst of it all. Part of me wishes we were staying here – the commute is dead easy, and not too long; it reminds me of Norwich a little too and I do need a new hairdresser – I could have worked my way round them all and found the best one!
I actually really like Blackheath, although of course I can see why a business such as this needs to be much more central. My boss spends a LOT of time traveling into the city and back again at the moment so the move will substantially change that for her.
And of course, you could argue what’s the point of working in London if you’re not working in the city. I still won’t be commuting with MrS though as he works much longer days than I do usually.
I’m really enjoying my new job, it’s busy, interesting and the people are great. I’ve amazed myself by already beginning to understand what people are talking about. I even know what acquisition advertising and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) are.
I spent Monday and Tuesday shadowing my boss and today I’ve managed to catch up on the work that was piling up. Being a PA means building a relationships with every one. One of the most important is that which you build with other PAs and it’s really important to form a good working, helpful relationship as soon as you can. You never know when you might need them to accommodate a diary change at short notice or need their help and advice. It’s also easy to be intimidated by other PAs, especially those of the bosses higher up the food chain! Any PA worth his or her salt will put their boss first and gate-keep their diary, but you always have to remember that those further up call the shots …
