Since moving down here MrS has been worried about Smudge getting enough exercise. There is a beautiful nature reserve near us called Scadbury but it’s too far to walk to AND walk round in just an evening. MrS Google Earth’d the house and we could see there was a large green area relatively nearby but we didn’t know what it was.
The other night we took a good walk round our area and discovered a large common that, despite having lived here for over a year, MrS had no idea existed.
I guess most people don’t generally go wandering round their area, they just go where they need to; shops, school. When you have a dog you have no choice. Until now Smudge has been limited to a walk round varying lengths of blocks, but tonight we went and played ball and got some fresh air as the parakeets (yes, parakeets) flew noisily over our heads.
Smudge is 8 now. The boys and I got her when we lived alone following my split from their dad. We had a tiny little house so there was no way we could get a Golden Retriever like I’d had growing up, so I thought a cocker spaniel would be just about right. She chose us really, as dogs do. I had wanted a Blue Roan, but the little black and white puppy with the white triangle on her head came staggering towards us in the breeders kitchen and we all fell in love with her.
Its been a big change for her recently too and whilst she has lots of people to love and fuss over her she’s been a bit discombobulated. She’s now got a ‘cosy corner’ with her bed and an adaptil plugin which we hope will help her.
And now we have somewhere big and green to go and walk. And for her to run off with the ball….
