Today was the first proper day in the new office for the whole company. I had yet another lousy commute in courtesy of SouthEastern, whose train that was supposed to get into Cannon Street at 8:53 was still sitting at London Bridge at nearly 9:10. At that point I got off and braved the tube the rest of the way. Having caught a train 20 minutes earlier than yesterday I still only arrived 5 minutes earlier.
Tomorrow I intend to try the bus.
Anyway, there were swipe cards and lockers to be issued and phones to work. Ah. Ok. The phones don’t work. All day we had a combination of no phones at all, only internal calls, external calls to a mobile but not landlines…(how the hell does that even work?).
We have introduced agile working and for everyone except a few (myself included), there are no set desks. Everything has to be put away in lockers over night. And I mean everything. Even those of us sitting at the same desk every day have to put laptop, keyboard and mouse away. Pens, paper etc, NOTHING must be left on desks overnight except our monitor and phone.
Someone came in to show everyone how to adjust their ergonomic chairs. So either everyone will spend the first 15 minutes of each day getting their chair right, or more likely, after about a week of trying they’ll give up and just sit on it and use the previous persons settings because they can’t be arsed to change it.
But the office looks brilliant and Holborn is a really nice area.
Although worryingly, it does seem to have limited shopping potential at the moment…
