Yesterday we both finished work for our holiday, altho we don’t actually fly until tomorrow. We took today off mainly because, having not been able to get Smudge into a local kennels at short notice, I’ve had to keep my booking with my lovely kennels in Norwich. So today we’ve done a round trip of 250 miles to take the dog on holiday!
And just as well really, because when popping to the flat to pick up something else, there were both my bikinis and a swimming costume laying on the bed.
This is why I always need a day off before my holiday. My mind needs to stop working over time so I can think straight and start to relax. I once flew abroad straight from work. I finished at 4, we got in the car and drove straight to Heathrow. This didn’t allow me to check and double check that I had everything. In the end, even though I knew they were there, I had to stop and check the cases were in the boot and that the tickets were in the front of the case before we drove any further.
I’m currently laying on the bed watching MrS pack, having just packed myself. I’m laying here trying to think of what else needs to go in, apart from toiletries. This is the point where I suddenly ‘can’t remember’ if I packed that top or those shoes, even though I KNOW I have because everything has been laid out in piles all week ready to pack.
This is the most difficult part for me. Between now and bag drop I will drive myself bonkers worrying if I’ve packed X or if I have enough Y. I’ve not been away for more than a week in 22 years. Will I run out of clothes? I’m a bit clumsy… (“That’s what hotel cleaning services are for”). I have designated MrS in charge of tickets and passports otherwise I will keep checking that they’re in my bag. I am haunted by the tale a taxi driver once told me on the way to the airport. He had gone on holiday with his family to Disney Florida. Except he didn’t go because when he turned up at the airport he only had a month left on his passport and his family went without him… I KNOW my passport is good until 2020 but I STILL KEEP CHECKING!
I’ve been waiting for this holiday for so long now I can’t quite believe it’s happening. Once we’ve dropped our bags and are sitting in the departure lounge I will really believe it.
