We are in Norfolk for our first proper weekend since installing No1 in the flat . I was promised it would be “super tidy” although his definition of “super tidy” and mine may have been lost in translation. As we’ve barely spent any time here yet, things are still in a post-move state so today we’ve straightened things out, and although there’s still some work to do, it’s starting to feel like the relaxing weekend hidey hole we planned on.
This weekend saw the end of the lease on the old house I was renting too. I hired a cleaning company to sort it out today. It was odd going back there, it’s empty now. It smelt exactly the same as it did when I first moved in. The house never smelt nice, no matter what I did with it, candles, spray, carpet cleaner. I walked into what was my old room and the smell of cigarette smoke was so over powering, and I don’t even smoke. It took me right back to the first day I moved in. So stressful, but as a present MrS paid for a cleaning company to come in and do top to bottom. Even they couldn’t get rid of the smell. It brought tears to my eyes today. I’m so grateful not to live there any more. It had lots of space but the kitchen was horrible, the heating never worked properly, nor the boiler, I was constantly worrying about keeping the meters topped up (I’d never had pay as you go utilities before and ran out of both gas and electric on one occasion).
The flat is the complete antithesis of that house. And tonight MrS is cooking dinner for the boys and me, while I sit and watch happily. Writing this.
