Moving to London has meant finding everything new that I took for granted. I’m not a really high maintenance kinda gal, but I do like to know my hair is in good hands. I’m not a 3-blow dries a week girl either, just a cut every 6 weeks and some highlights when I remember. I was with my last hairdresser in Norwich for just 18 months, before that for 15 years! Trusting someone to do stuff to your hair that you then have to live with is a big thing and I’ve been lucky with my last two hairdressers in that not only were they great at cutting hair but they were also friendly and liked to chat. Especially Ed, he LOVED to chat but I digress…
Directly opposite my new office is Glamour House so I thought I’d try there. I went for an eyebrow shape to check the place out. The treatment was fine but the atmosphere in the salon was remote and unfriendly. None of the hairdressers were talking to their clients. Even for a cut and blow dry you’d be in there for an hour, that’s a long time in someone’s company without talking to them.
Then I remembered that on our company day in the summer, whilst doing the treasure hunt, we’d passed a place on Chancery Lane. It was a lovely looking little salon and as I’d passed it one of the staff members had been showing a customer out and shaking his hand. It looked small and friendly but I’d no idea what it was called.
So I googled salons on that road and came up with Kelvie and Brown. I knew this was the place from the photos so I thought I’d give it a go. I first had my hair cut just before our holiday, by Mark, who is the owner. He was smashing, and spent ages chatting with me about my hair, what I liked and didn’t like etc. When you have your hair washed you sit in a massage chair. I didn’t want to move from the sink! He did a really great job and was super friendly. This is what I want from my hair salon. I want to be made to feel special.
I’ve since been and had my nails and eyebrows done and the same friendly atmosphere is evident in the Beauty Bar downstairs as it is in the hairdressers upstairs. Ellie did another fabulous job on my nails today and she’s a pleasure to chat with while she works.
Thank you Kelvie and Brown for making me feel at home and doing a great job at making your customers feel special. London isn’t all tough and in friendly.
Also someone asked me for directions today. I must look like I live here now :)
