Day 168 ~ Christmas is Go (and a minor Fuckit list event)
December 14, 2014
I’ve been looking forward to this weekend for ages as the unofficial start to, what is essentially, our first Christmas together. Although we were a “couple” last Christmas we weren’t able to be together until Boxing Day, and that was officially our 3rd date!
Yesterday morning we accomplished the order of two separate Christmas food deliveries without even leaving the bed. We unearthed the Christmas decorations ( all MrS’s as mine are in storage ) and put up the lights, while we waited for the tree to arrive. And waited. And waited. Typically the delivery guy called as we were about to get on the train into town but fortunately we had anticipated this level of Murphey’s-lawness and he was able to deposit it in the back garden, having already tried to deliver it to MrS’s old address!
We were on the train to town to go to the Royal Festival Hall. For a very long time I have wanted to see a live performance of Handel’s The Messiah but I’ve never managed to find the time to get to London near Christmas to see it. I certainly never had anyone who wanted to come with me. I mentioned this to MrS a few weeks back and within minutes we had booked to go. I quickly wrote it on the list so I could cross it off!
But first we sampled the delights of the Southbank Winter
Festival. Mulled cider, mulled wine, bratwurst and schnitzel
and more mulled wine. I managed to dissuade myself from the waffles with chocolate sauce. It was very busy but I’m going to drag Lindsey (@honeytothe) back there on Tuesday for our inaugural Mulled Wine Silliness before she is spirited back oooop North next week.
The Messiah was utterly beautiful and performed in period costume. The RFH isn’t visually stunning, although the huge pipe organ is very impressive (yeah yeah insert your own joke here) and it’s acoustics are are pretty near perfect. It’s such an uplifting and moving piece and we all stood for the Hallelujah Chorus (thanks King George). I wouldn’t necessarily reccommend drinking quite so much mulled wine beforehand tho (I nearly nodded off during one particular quiet part) but it was amazing and I’m so happy I’ve finally seen it. We might make it an annual thing.
Today day is tree day and tonight, we’re off to see “Its a Wonderful Life”, I love this film so much and can’t wait to share it with MrS. But more of that tomorrow
