No1 paid a surprise visit to me at work today. He has been on leave from work this week and a friend of his had an interview in Westminster so he thought he would come along for the [train] ride and surprise me by meeting me for lunch, having got MrS in on the act.
It’s strange when people appear in your life out of context. I miss my sons very much but in the day to day it’s easy to think of them as just getting on with their own lives and them not missing me much at all. But I know they do. And the fact he made the effort to surprise me like that means the world to me. A day in London to himself and he decides to meet his mum for lunch.
So I introduced him to a few colleagues while he waited for me to finish up for lunch and we went to the local where I fed him so he didn’t have to cook tonight ;)
Tonight Lindsey and I finally celebrated my mini not-hen-night. We were supposed to have one last week but I had to cancel due to diary clashes (MrS’s and the dogs) and she ended up taking an unsuspecting first date on my hen night instead!
As we couldn’t get back into the Sky Gardens until June (we are definitely going, it’s booked and engraved in stone in everyone’s diary this time!) we just decided to go to TGI Fridays instead (on my promise that the bar there serves brilliant cocktails at half the price of other places down here). I was already one white chocolate martini up on Lindsey when she arrived (lush. Me and the cocktail) and she produced this lot of goodies…
Sadly she had SELFISHLY eaten the chocolate willies during the day but I have promised her I will cook her the penis pasta whilst teaching her how to sew on buttons in return for her teaching me how to use google analytics properly. We had a ball including White Chocolate and Pornstar martinis, a Turkish Delight something-or-other, several Woo-Woos and a hilarious train journey home where St Paul’s appeared to have moved to Lewisham (you had to be there).
Having Lindsey as a new friend of my own down here has been the best thing, rather than just assuming MrS’s social life I needed to make my own and having someone also new to this wonderful city has been brilliant. Another fab friendship born out of the wonder that is Twitter!
